I got this awesome tip from this blog on the original procrastination hack.

What you do is a rotation of time periods, you can do 10 minutes then 2 minutes, the 1st section of time working as hard as you can on your next action of your to do list, then 2 minutes doing anything ~ surfing the web or whatever

And then repeat – each cycle doing some other thing on your to do list.

You can make the times longer, I usually do 15 minutes, and 7 minutes or something like that.

And after a while, you really get into it and both segments are enjoyable ~

You can use this online loop count down timer

I have always been involved with languages other than English ~

My parents are from the Czech Republic, and I grew up speaking Czech and listening to Czech every day. When I was very young, I spoke Czech beautifully, but alas, my sister who had already been going to school and who was learning English, started speaking with me in English, and so it became more than second nature to me…

I then later wanted to learn French for some reason.. I don’t really know why, I just did, but never did.

Then in year 8 in high school, I became interested in Asian culture.

A friend in my class by the name of Jenny was reading Japanese comic books, and drawing that style of art. I was fascinated by the artwork, and also wanted to learn what she could do. I bought a comic book, and started trying to copy the pictures. It was a shaky start, but after some years I could draw pretty much anything that I wanted. I also, through reading the comic, was exposed for the first time to the Japanese culture, which was so different from the European and Australian Western culture I had always known…

I started becoming more and more interested in both modern and traditional Japanese culture, cooking, food, clothes, music, art, etc.etc. ~ and taught myself Japanese from a $10 CD for my senior years, learning a few grammar points, vocabulary, the 2 alphabets and some Chinese characters, (also used in the language.)

I then learned Japanese intensely in Macquarie University, and also traveled there~

I am now going to a church near Macquarie University that has many Chinese international students, so I have also started learning about Chinese culture and geography etc. I would love to learn Chinese, since I have so many people I could practice with, but I find it so much harder to get than Japanese ~

One tool I discovered from a video on YouTube, is www.Lang-8.com

It is a website where you can write a journal, essay, letter etc.etc. – in the language you are learning, and other users who are native speakers of that language can correct your written work. Then in turn, you can help people who are learning your native tongue.

Best of luck in your language endeavours !! Even if you only know one ~ ^__^

I stopped watching TV and Movies a long while ago.

For a time, I was living in a place without a TV, and I decided not to watch anymore, it didn’t really help me in any way…

But I started watching YouTube a lot, getting obsessed with Vloggers, and other random videos,

My thoughts started to be:

is this any better than TV/Movies?

what’s worse, propaganda from huge corporations, or vulgar stupidity from random citizens?

But I guess there are really wonderful things on TV and on YouTube ~ you need to choose, and you really can choose what you watch online…

I also love making YouTube videos ~ I can exercise my creativity ~ so maybe it’s better to make YouTube videos than to watch them…

Hello world,
I am excited and intrigued by the notion of writing a book in one month, more specifically, participating in NaNoWriMo ([inter] National Novel Writing Month – November).
When I was a lad, I dreamed of becoming a writer when I grew up. I loved creating worlds and telling stories. I could write and write pages and pages to no end. I had a slight curse of not being able to spell…I had the most troubles with the word “when” – always spelling it “wen”.

In high school I had different stages of mildly enjoying English classes, to abhorring them. And then came university, in which I was focusing on the other side of the brain; coding, solving mathematical problems, and designing engeneering architectures. Also basic Japanese.

Well now I am just going to do it and write a book.

It will be insane, and I doubt I’ll have enough time, but I’ll just write, and then edit some other time… Also – to become physically and mentally prepared, I am going to start BEDA – Blog Every Day in August. And actually, it will be more than every day. I have set myself the insane goal of writing a blog post for every day of the year in one month. That way, my blogs can all be scheduled to post themselves once a week, and there will be a new post coming out of one of my blogs every day until August 2012 ~

That’s the plan anyway.
It should come to about 12 blog posts a day.

Wish me luck, and start sending me ideas on what would make a good book.
Fare thee well,
~Ben Pushka.

(By the way, there were 4 spelling errors I corrected in this post)

Ok, blogging every day went well, though i didn’t write 260 posts…
I’m in NaNoWriMo 2011 now ~~ ahh~!!! here is a video of that:

I’m currently watching the bginning of Google IO Develoers conference from Australia ~

so exciting ~ it’s the 1st I’ve listened to ~

I’ll give live updates ~ (though on the Google IO 2011 website, there are also live streming, updates and announcements)

Update to Honeycomb, Ice-cream Sandwich (I mised this)

Android market + Movie rentals (like on YouTube)

Google Music Beta – online iTunes replacement in the cloud with auto sync

Open accessories - anyone can make any type of accessories that work with Android

Android at Home – Android can work with any item in your house, if inbuilt, or if you connect to a receiver

I can’t believe how smooth and amazing the Google IO live stream is ~ there must be thousands watching and it doesn’t skip a beat~

There were 2 main streams on the live streaming ~ Android and Chrome – both of which I’m really interested in – wish I could watch it all ~ I think it will all be released soon~

And huge news for browsers and the killing of IE6

There is a plugin called Google Chrome Frame, which can be installed on machines without admin privaliges, that renders web pages through Chrome in IE if the webpage has opted in (with a meta tag) – so websites can use HTML 5, modern flash, 3d graphics etc. in IE6 with this plugin.

Also Google Open Fonts is exciting:

Rich fonts like what is used in print, Google hosts them, so there isn’t any down time, there is no licencing issues, because it’s open, and Google handles cross-browser quirks and browser updates etc., option for compression, optimisation, only download characters you need, caching.
